COURSE OBJECTIVE
The course will equip learners with the necessary skill and knowledge to perform a professional Sports Massage.
COURSE OUTLINES
Be able to provide Sports Massage according to ITEC certification. Covers:
1) changes occur during exercise to the muscular system, physiology of muscle cell, origin/insertion & action of muscles; effects of stress on muscles; changes to the neurological system; joint structures; stresses & strains put on spine and joints; joint supporting system.
2) diseases & disorders and effects on sports; principles of training; over training, principles of force & motion; injury prevention & management; stages of healing process; preventative & rehabilitative training; effects & benefits of stretching; use of stretching massage movements.
3) signs & symptoms of inflammation; techniques of thermotherapy & cryotherapy (ICER); scar tissue and adhesions.
4) methods of consultation; contraindications to sports massage.
5) skills of palpation; massage movements; application of massage medium; treatment of common sports injuries; Case studies (5 clients treated 3 times each).
